About Erode

Based in Erode, Tamil Nadu, Erode Clothing is a cultural luxury brand that blends Western silhouettes with South Indian craftsmanship. Working closely with weavers in Tamil Nadu, the brand seeks to revive the dying art of Jamakkalam weaving through collaborating with local artisans in the practice.

Jamakkalam, a type of woven fabric whose craft has been passed down through generations, recently faces a rapid decline due to lack of recognition, an increase in production costs, and the decline in the transmission to young weavers. The choice to preserve Jamakkalam is deeply personal, intertwined with societal, economic, and emotional considerations.

Uniquely contemporary heritage pieces that show the deep-rooted traditions behind their designs as well as acting as a reminder that erosion is not just limited to the physical landscape but extends to the intangible culture we risk losing if we do not act.

Our Ethos

At Society of Cloth we aim to highlight and uplift those who embody unique creative perspectives while also paying homage to the process of creation. People that are taking risks within fashion not just creatively, but a risk to create fashion that is ethical, culturally meaningful, and unique.

We are celebrating craftsmanship, quality, and an accessibility to slow fashion. The best of emerging South Asian design.
